Follow Me
I love the shuffle songs function on the Ipod. I truly do not know what is going to play, and am always surprised. Vicki doesn't like it as much as I do. Going from Third Day to Tchaikovsky to Garth Brooks doesn't really work for her.
But I love that mystery of not knowing what is coming next, and rediscovering songs that I haven't listened to in years. It always amazes me how a song can immediately take me back to a specific thought or memory or emotion, and can also stir in me new emotions and thoughts. I find myself listening to songs and interpreting lyrics in new ways, through a ...gasp...more "mature" perspective.
This weekend a John Denver song came on the ol' Ipod. Yes, I do have some John Denver on my Ipod. You can stop laughing now. No, really, stop laughing. (you should have seen the look on the lady at the drive thru when I pulled up and John Denver was blaring out the window). So the song "Follow Me" came on. It's a simple but beautiful little love song, and as it played I naturally began thinking about the one I love. But around the second verse, my perspective changed, and I began envisioning the One that loves me singing to me and the song took on a whole new meaning.
Just thought I'd share.
Follow me
by John Denver
It's by far the hardest thing I've ever done
To be so in love with you and so alone
Follow me where I go, what I do, and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me, up and down, all the way, and all around
Take my hand and say you'll follow me
It's long been on my mind
You know it's been a long, long time
I've tried to find the way that I can make you understand
The way I feel about you and just how much I need you
To be there where I can talk to you
When ther'es no one else around
Follow me, where I go, what I do, and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follwo me, up and down, all the way, and all around
Take my hand and say you'll follow me
You see, i'd like to share my life with you
And show you things I've seen
Places that I'm going to, and places that I've been
To have you there beside me, and never be alone
And all the time thatyou're with me
We will be at home
Follow me, where I go, what I do, and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me, up and down, all the way
Take my hand and I will follow you
