Concrete Is Heavy

I went to Home Depot tonight to pick up some concrete…gonna build a fence tomorrow. I had to wear my work slacks because all of my jeans were in the washing machine. My wife hasn’t figured out yet that jeans piled on the floor at the end of the bed are still clean…when I put them in the hamper, then they are OK to wash. I almost didn't go because I didn't have the proper "Home Depot clothes".
So, I figured I would have a Home Depot worker help me load the concrete. Unfortunately, it was late in the evening, and there weren’t many Home Depot people around. It was only 20 bags, so I went ahead and loaded it onto my cart myself and headed for the check out stand. 20 bags of concrete was heavier than I expected. I was literally dripping with sweat, wondering why they didn’t have the air conditioner on (at least a fan would have been nice). My hands were filthy, I was trying to wipe the sweat off my brow with my forearm, all the while contemplating buying one of the work-shirts by the checkout stand just to mop up with.
Some time later I had the concrete loaded into my truck, and began thinking…20 bags, 80 pounds per bag…that’s 1600 lbs! I lifted more than ¾ tons twice in the span of an hour! Isn’t it amazing how much more impressive ¾ tons sounds, compared to 20 bags of concrete. Vicki wasn’t impressed. Her exact words were, “Yeah, but you didn’t lift it all at once.” Guess who gets to unload the truck in the morning?
